In order to ensure that children are getting at least one nutritious meal per day, HEPAC opens its doors and serves lunch to roughly 100 students per day. This practice was started over 30 years ago by a local, Esther Torres, who began giving out sacks lunches to impoverished kids in the area. Over time, more and more students began to arrive looking for a healthy meal. With the help of other volunteers in the community, Torres was able to buy the land that HEPAC now sits on and provide lunch to all elementary and middle school children who need it.
